  • I recently spent shabbas (February 25-26, 2011) in the vicinity of Ohr Chaim - with some wonderful and hospitable families. I attended Friday night, sat. morning and evening services at Ohr Chaim. The minyan was strong, and the pace was good. Where I'm from, the fellas like to book it through the service slowing often to sing in unison here and again. At Ohr Chaim, there was less unified songs (probably because where I'm from there are usually only about 15 yarmulkes in the minyan, whereas at Ohr Chaim there are roughly 80 and more people have their own pace), but the Kaddish was nice and slow - you really could soak in the blessings.
I didn't even recognize the mechitza when I first arrived. Directly behind the men, perhaps it was difficult to see the bema through the beards and backs. I can't give a first hand account, cause I wasn't back there. I'm a little sensitive on the equality of the line of sight.
The folks were very warm and welcoming, people very interested in getting to know you. It turns out that even though I come from a tiny community in the south, there were still some kin connections and an awareness of my community.
The Rabbi gave a great dvar.

Unfortunately, there wasn't a havdolah service. I was invited to someone's home; another great experience.
Ohr Chaim - 2 thumbs up.
